What Are Kitchen Units?

In kitchens, units are often referred to as cabinets. These are pieces of furniture with doors and shelves used for storage. Cabinets and units perform the same function and are essentially the same thing in kitchen design.

Types of Kitchen Units

#1. Base Units:

Base Units

These are the workhorses of your kitchen. They're the typical floor cabinets you see lining the bottom part of your kitchen walls. They come in various widths and depths, offering storage for all sorts of things, from pots and pans to dishes and cutlery.  You can get them with drawers, shelves, or a combination of both, depending on your needs.

#2. Corner Base Units:

Corner Base Units

Imagine a regular base unit, but instead of a straight line, it's designed to fit snugly into a corner where two walls meet.  These are lifesavers in small kitchens as they help you utilize those often-wasted corner spaces.  They might have shelves that rotate or angled layouts to make the most of the corners.

#3. Wall Units:

These are the cabinets that hang on your walls, usually above the base units. They provide additional storage space, often used for lighter items that you use frequently, like dishes, glasses, spices, or mugs. Wall units come in various heights and can be open shelves, have doors, or even a combination of both.

#4. Corner Wall Units:

Similar to corner base units, these are wall units designed specifically for corners. They help you maximize storage space on your upper walls too.  They might have angled shelves or special features to utilize the corner effectively.

#5. Appliance Housings:

These are specialized cabinets designed to fit specific appliances seamlessly into your kitchen. They can be built-in units or come as freestanding cabinets.  Think oven cabinets, microwave cubbyholes, or tall housings for refrigerators.  Appliance housings create a more integrated and streamlined look in your kitchen.

#6. Tall Units:

These are tall cabinets that provide additional storage space, particularly useful for storing pantry items, large pots, and pans.  They typically come in standard widths but can run much taller than base units, sometimes reaching all the way up to the ceiling.

#7. Tall Corner Units:

As the name suggests, these are tall units designed to fit into corners.  They are a great space-saving solution for maximizing storage capacity, especially in kitchens with tight corners.

#8. Worktop Dressers:

Imagine a base unit with a built-in work surface on top. That's a worktop dresser in essence.  These are perfect for small kitchens where every inch of space counts.  They provide additional storage space along with a functional work surface.

#9. Panels and Accessories:

These are like the finishing touches for your kitchen units. Panels are typically used to cover exposed sides or gaps between cabinets, creating a more polished look.  Accessories encompass a wide range of items that enhance the functionality and style of your kitchen.  Think knobs, handles, plinths (decorative strips covering the base of cabinets), and even lighting options.

#10. Appliance Doors:

These are doors specifically designed to hide away appliances behind a cabinet door. This can be a great way to achieve a more streamlined and uncluttered look in your kitchen, especially if you have appliances that don't quite match the overall style of your kitchen.
